Perfume – Fushizen na Girl / Natural ni Koishite

1. Fushizen na Girl

2. Natural ni Koishite

3. Fushizen na Girl -Original Instrumental-

4. Natural ni Koishite -Original Instrumental-

Yay, a new Perfume single ^_^ I was thinking that after Natural ni Koishite was announced that that would be it, but nope. Surprise Double A-side! On to the review.

“Fushizen na Girl” really reminds me of some classic pop, more specifically Kylie Minogue. I don’t know why, but I get those vibes from it, of course, with a bit of a synthesized twist to it. It’s got a pretty good beat to it and while I have no complaints, I find the other A-side to be superior.

Score – 8

“Natural ni Koishite” got to me immediately with it’s upbeat synth, and the girls cute vocals. The song just has really great energy and a really fun sound and I loved the overall message of the lyrics.

Score – 9

Angela Aki – Kagayaku Hito

1. Kagayaku Hito

2. The Chase

3. Without You

4. Tegami ~Haikei Juugo no Kimi e~ Choir Version

I’m so excited Angela is back with some new music. God I really just can’t wait for a new album. Right off the bat you can tell that the title track is going to be an acoustic guitar song which is a bit different than her very usual piano. I’m glad to see she’s switching it up.

“Kagayaku Hito” starts off with, well, what else but Angela playing acoustic guitar? She plays it really soft and backs it with some pretty powerful vocals, especially during the chorus. In all honesty the song isn’t really that exciting, however, towards the middle of the song she changes things up in the bridge by breaking it down and playing a faster more exciting tune while hitting some nice high notes. While nice, it is pretty plain and I would’ve liked something a bit more exciting from Angela playing such an instrument.

Score – 7.5

For “The Chase” Angela of course returns to piano here, backed by some light percussion. I’m reminded of some earlier Angela Aki songs but this one still maintains a slightly unique sound. This song just sounds really fun and I really enjoyed the chorus.

Score – 8

“Without You” is a cover of a song originally by the British rock band Badfinger. Angela has translated a good portion of the song to her liking as she has done with past covers. She keeps the chorus in English as well as finishing off the song in English. The song is quite short and sweet and quite frankly, Angela kills it. In the good way of course ;)

Score – 8

The “Choir Version” of Tegami ~Haikei Juugo no Kimi e~ is quite simply Angela singing the song with piano backed by a choir. Nothing terribly interesting going on here but it does sound very nice.

Score – 8
